How I Stay Positive
Hey everyone! This week's blog post was written by my best friend Julia Lenz (follow her on Twitter & Insta). She has so many incredible thoughts about how to stay positive and spread positivity to others. I wanted to give her the opportunity to share that with other people through my platform! I'd like to do a series of blog posts that were written by people other than me so you can see some posts through different lenses (or Lenzes, haha get it, Julia LENZ?). Without further ado, here's Julia!
Hey everyone, my name is Julia. I love Chick Fil a, making new friends, and spreading positivity! :) Positivity spreads to people quickly and makes an incredible impact on the world around us. Positivity and kindness can single handedly change the world through a ripple effect! People ask me, “How do you stay positive?” Sometimes I admit that it is hard for me to do on my bad days, but it isn’t an impossible task. I want to change people’s perspectives on how they look at life and the world around them. Here are some ways I keep a positive attitude in my life:
If anyone knows me, they know that I LOVE quotes. I seriously have a huge board on my Pinterest for just quotes! Sometimes they are just what you need on a bad day. I could scroll for hours on Pinterest pinning them. Quotes are spoken words of wisdom and inspiration from others’ experiences. The best way we can learn about life is by our experiences and to share those experiences with the world! :) We can learn something from everyone. One of my favorite quotes is from Steve Jobs. He said, “The people who are crazy enough to think that they can change the world are the ones who do.” This quote gives me motivation to change the world with kindness and positivity! It helps me believe that I can change the world, and I will one day! :) I am determined to, because of this quote. My role model who represents kindness and love in all aspects of life is Mother Theresa. She has said some amazing things! She is seriously one of the best people on this planet and I wish I could have met her! Here is some of the wisdom she has shared:
“If you judge people, you have no time to love them.”
“Do things for people not because of who they are or what they do in return, but because of who you are.”
“Spread love wherever you go. Let no one ever come to you without leaving happier”.
Mother Theresa is one of the greatest advocates of love in human history. She is everything I strive to be and I hope to be half the woman she was one day! :) Quotes keep me going. They help me feel better about my life and about myself. If you have a few quotes that you know by heart, you can repeat them when you feel bad about yourself or are just having a terrible day. Keep repeating it! Make yourself believe and then you will be unstoppable! :) I really love the quote, “Do the kindest things in the kindest way.” This is a saying that I have on my wall and it is a nice reminder to always be kind to one of another no matter what. :)
I am a Christian and my faith makes me who I am. There are some pretty great verses for both Christians and non-Christians. The Bible has verses about joy and love. It can really make a person feel better, because sometimes a bible verse is just what you need. :) I want to share some bible verses that I use in my life:
“Your heart will always pursue what you treasure.” -Matthew 6:20
“Serve one another in love.” -Galations 5:13
“Let all you do be done in love.” -1 Corinthians 16:14
“Clothes yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” -Colossians 3:12
“Guard your heart above all else, for it determines the course of your life.” -Proverbs 4:23
“Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends.” -1 Corinthians 13-4-8
Those are just some bible verses that give me the encouragement I need, but here are some that are more religious:
“I praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful.” -Psalms 139:14
“But He knows where I’m going and when He tests me I will come out as pure gold.” -Job 23:10
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” -Philippians 4:13
“Those who remain in love remain in God and God remains in them.” -1 John 4:16
“God is light, in Him there is no darkness at all.” -1 John 1:5
No matter what you believe, we all find hope in something. I find hope in my faith. :) It helps me to know that everything is going to be okay no matter what happens to me. It leads me to believe that my life has meaning and I am meant for something greater. Others find hope in different things, but hope is essential to living. It helps me to stay positive for what is coming next in my life! :) There are a couple bible verses that I have on my wall that are pretty significant in my life. Psalm 139:14 is my all time favorite verse because it is a reminder that I was created to be beautiful and unique. When I am sad or down on myself, it always cheers me up. Psalm 46:10 was incredibly significant because that was the verse that helped me find my faith again when I lost it. :) But that story is for another time!
CHANGING YOUR PERSPECTIVE
Everyone has a different perspective on how we view the world. Sometimes we have to change our perspective to see the other side of an argument or someone else’s point of view to understand. I try to change my perspective in a positive light. My view on having a job is different than most. I have three jobs on my university’s campus and l love all of them. I do not see them as jobs; I see them as hobbies. :) Usually the word ‘job’ has a negative connotation to it. But honestly, why not have fun at work? If I see it as a hobby, it is something I like doing. :) I enjoy going to work!
RANDOM ACTS OF KINDNESS
Random Acts of Kindness are another way to stay positive because they bring a smile to the other person’s faces and then they bring a smile to your face! Kindness is a ripple effect and it is a way to make the world a better place. You do not know what kind of day someone is having, and sometimes kindness is the highlight of their day! :) To me, that is something to be proud of. These acts of kindness mean more to people than you realize. This is why you should always be kind. Some random acts of kindness I like to do are:
Pay it forward!! (Paying for the people behind you in line at a drive thru or even in line at a food place (I do this a lot at Starbucks and a coffee shop on campus called Saxbys)) :)
Write compliments on pieces of paper/clothespins and give them out. It is good to encourage the person to pass it on so it can make other people’s days! :)
Putting quarters in a little bag and taping it to a vending machine or a washer/dryer. :)
Just remember that you are amazing and capable of anything that you set your mind to. You are loved. You are talented. You are smart and brave. You are deserving of so much! Say this everyday and believe it because it'ss true. Never give up on your goals and most importantly yourself. You have a bright future ahead of you and will continue to do remarkable things. Kindness is an amazing thing and it starts with you. Remember to always smile! :) Go change the world, one kind act at a time. :)
